RAW SILK HERITAGE

LEGEND HAS IT

Empress Lei Zu discovered silk while having her afternoon tea some five thousand years ago. A cocoon fell into her tea, the heat unraveled the silk, and she stretched the fine filament across her garden. She then asked for a grove of mulberry trees to create the finest mulberry silk — a closely guarded secret for thousands of years to follow. Eventually, the secret spread westward. And with the paving of the Silk Road came the exchange of ideas and cultures among traders and travelers.

To the Ancient Chinese, silk is nature’s highest luxury. To us at KAILU, it is a time-honored way to open the road to new lands and new ideas, and to connect people from around the world.

ARTISANS FIRST

We work with passionate farmers who affectionately call their silkworms cán bao bao (“silk babies” in Mandarin); artisans who tirelessly hand-wash each cocoon; and families who continue to pass down the sericulture (silk farming) tradition to younger generations despite a shift toward synthetic materials.

Raw silk brings together generations of artisans to cultivate and create the most inspired and luxurious bedding — a heritage and passion they (and we) are proud to share with you.

WHY RAW SILK?

Cultivated with organic mulberry leaves, KAILU's extraordinary silk is the highest-grade long-strand mulberry silk available.

Cultivated with organic mulberry leaves, our extraordinary silk is the highest-grade long-strand mulberry silk available.

Rather than reeling and weaving it into traditional fabrics, our artisans leave it in its natural state — raw and perfectly imperfect — then hand stretch it into luxurious layers.

Raw silk is naturally hypoallergenic and resistant to dust mites and microbes, as well as being temperature regulating and supremely breathable.
